CFA Seminars (Tuesdays)

The CfA Seminarexternal link aims to provide young researchers (PhD, Post-doc, early career) an opportunity to visit and present their work at the CfA. The seminar is held on Tuesdays at Noon during the Academic Year (Sept – May) in Phillips Auditorium and also on Zoom. CFA Colloquia (Tuesdays)

The CfA Colloquiaexternal link offer an opportunity for scientists, engineers, and staff to hear about topics at the forefront of astrophysical research from leaders in their field. Themes range from upcoming NASA missions to the latest detections that are shifting and sharpening astronomical research and analysis. The colloquia are designed to bring scientists together and foster discussion across disciplines, encouraging collaboration.  The colloquia are held on Tuesdays at 1pm during the Academic Year (Sept – May) in Phillips Auditorium and also on Zoom.

  • Exoplanet Pizza Lunch - a biweekly pizza lunch seminar held during Harvard's Fall and Spring semesters. 1-2 talks are given on topics of interest to people who study exoplanets (this includes, but is not limited to, planet formation, atmospheres, observation and instrumentation, stellar physics, and protoplanetary disk modeling and observations). Talks are informal and based on a single page (two-sided) handout, rather than a typical PowerPoint presentation. Interruptions for discussion are encouraged! Typically falls on every other week on Wednesdays in Pratt at 11am (starting Jan 25). Announcements are sent to the exoplanets@cfa.harvard.edu mailing list.   • Planetary Journal Club - is a joint journal club between the CfA and Harvard's Earth & Planetary Scienceexternal link department. Members discuss recent journal articles on planetary science, which often include Solar System objects as well as exoplanets. Articles for discussion are curated based on a semesterly theme.  Meetings are weekly. Meeting times for Spring 2023 are 12-1pm on Fridays with lunch provided.   • Origins Of Lifeexternal link - Chalk Talks and Forums
  • The Equity and Inclusion Journal Clubexternal link- (on haitus) usually meets on a weekly basis in the spring (Fridays at 1pm in Phillips Auditorium) to discuss issues of equity and inclusion in science. The EIJC takes as its stance that the practice and culture of science are not immune to the widespread inequality in society as a whole. All are welcome to have an open dialoge and seek solutions.
